Is It Really Water Proof?
Have you heard all the noise recently about the apparently new waterproof floors? Here’s a little bit of reality about these new floors. After all, we really don’t want you ending up with floors that just aren’t what they claim to be.
This new type of flooring is called COREtec, which is a WPC flooring system. Here’s where the misleading information comes in. Many companies have been marketing WPC as meaning “Water Proof Core”, which is not true.
The reality is it stands for “Wood Polymer Core”. This means that WPC is actually a wood dough that is a combination of plastic and wood blended together. And yep, this is not waterproof. If you get this floor wet it may swell up, distort and need replacing.
Now, these floors aren’t bad floors and they have their place. The reason they were created in the first place was to satisfy the DIY market, but with a higher performance life than a typical laminate floor.
But if you want a truly waterproof click together solution what should you do?
Pet Floors has an answer to this growing demand with our own click together system. However, ours continues to be manufactured purely with PVC, no wood filler (WPC). And yes, it is waterproof.
It even has an acoustic back that makes it one of the quietest floating floors on the market. Yes, this might cost more, because the non-waterproof filler is removed but remember, good things are not cheap and cheap things are not good.
At Pet Floors, we are still encouraging everyone to go with glue down floors, that way no water or urine can get underneath the floors. But for those that want a floating floor, because of cost or the need for a softer floor, Korlok or LooseLay may be a wonderful alternative.
Now that summer is right around the corner, this could be an awesome indoor project for all the DIYers out there. More information will be coming soon on our website blog.
LooseLay now comes in 12 colors in a 59”x10” plank. (For more information, go to Karndean’s LooseLay Page )
